Crime thriller, Suspense
On a hot July day, Garrick and Olivia Lockwood and their two children move into 25 The Avenue looking for a fresh start. They arrive in the midst of a media frenzy: they’d heard about the local murders in the press, but Garrick was certain the killer would be caught and it would all be over in no time. Besides, they’d got the house at a steal and he was convinced he could flip it for a fortune.
The neighbours seemed to be the very picture of community spirit. But everyone has secrets, and the residents in The Avenue are no exception.
After six months on the case with no real leads, the most recent murder has turned DC Wildeve Stanton’s life upside down, and now she has her own motive for hunting down the killer – quickly.
Wow. This story blew my mind. I can easily say that its the best book I have read this year purely because I was kept guessing for almost the whole book. There are a few story lines running concurrently and you are tossed back and forth between the past and the present. Each story line seems clear until it’s not and then you’re left questioning everything you assumed so far. You will start off liking some characters and disliking others only to have that turned on its head by the end of the book. The misdirection was genius and the core plot was intriguing and twisted. I very rarely read books twice. This is one that I look forward to reading again in a few years and being enthralled all over again. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster that you won’t want to get off.
But don’t take just my word for it. My Book Buddy Simone from An Ordinary Girl has also reviewed this book and you will find her thoughts on the story here (as well as hundreds of other reviews because she is a bibliophile of note!).
10/10! If I could give this book a 12 I would. It was amazing! Go read it!
